About Thyme Bistro, Retail Innovation at Menno Haven Retirement Community

It’s About Thyme – that is the About Thyme Bistro which recently opened at Menno Haven Retirement Community at its Brookview location in Chambersburg, PA.  The bistro features fresh, made-to-order food including comtemporary and quick served menu items that are prepared for staff and seniors accustomed to what’s trending in culinary!

According to Jeremy Fry, Cura general manager of culinary services, About Thyme Bistro is already 24% ahead of projected sales.  "Adjacent to the nursing center where 70% of the staff is located, one of our goals was to create the look, menu and feel to be appealing while providing a quick and nutritious meal to go.”

While seating is available for up to 40 people inside and outside, the About Thyme Bistro was designed and centrally positioned as a retail location focused on take-out service.

“In addition to offering made-to-order sandwiches, pizza and daily specials, we are also within walking distance of 75% of the independent residents living on campus,” says Fry.  About Thyme is also open to skilled and personal care residents. 

To start their day right, guests can select from made-to-order breakfast sandwiches and smoothies.  For lunch and dinner, flatbread pizza, grilled sandwiches, and “Always Available” menu items round out the hot selections. Deli sandwiches and salads are crafted with fresh produce grown at Country Creek Produce Farm in Chambersburg. 

Homemade cookies, cakes and the ever-popular oatmeal pie are also big sellers! 

Named proudly by Menno Haven resident Phyllis Westerfield, About Thyme Bistro is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner; weekends from 10 a.m to 3 p.m.
