"Cura E-News" March 2008

Mercy Medical Center, First Hospital for Cura in Baltimore, Md.

Patients, guests and retail customers at Mercy Medical Center, a best-in-class urban hospital located in the heart of Baltimore, Md., are experiencing fresh, high-quality and delicious food, as well as exceptional customer service since Cura Hospitality was awarded the dining contract Sept. 30, 2007.

The dining team serves more than 1,500 guests daily at the Marketplace Bistro, a full-service bustling café that features several delicious selections from the East Street Deli®, Pepperazzi®, Bravisimo® and the Sequoia Grill®. The Baggot Street Starbuck’s Café is another crowd pleaser where guests have a wonderful view of downtown Baltimore while sipping specialty coffees or choosing from delicious sandwiches.  Guests will soon enjoy Salad By Design, a concept that gives diners the freedom to “custom build” their salads.  And, for those on the go, The Barista Cafe®, located in the main lobby of the hospital, serves gourmet coffees, sandwiches, fruit cups, cold beverages, yogurts, desserts and snacks Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Dining service to Mercy patients will also be enhanced beginning with Menu Concierge, a spoken menu system.  New to Cura and to Mercy, dining staff will take patients’ dining orders immediately prior to food service. There are real benefits to this type of service as the same dining service team member takes the order, delivers and clears trays – which helps them to stay abreast of patient needs, tastes, diet changes, medical procedures and therapies.

Mercy recently announced the hospital’s plans to construct an 18-story, 672,000-square-foot state-of-the-art inpatient tower featuring 32 beds per floor.  Cura has been invited to provide consultation services to help design new dining venues including a Tuscan-style restaurant featuring brick oven pizza and Mediterranean fare.
