PHOEBE BERKS VILLAGE AND HEALTHCARE CENTER WALK FOR NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH

WHAT: Residents of the Phoebe Berks Village and Healthcare Center in Wernersville, PA, will celebrate National Nutrition Month with a group walk.  Organized by the Phoebe Berks activities department and Cura Hospitality, the 1/8 mile loop around the community’s gazebo encourages residents to get and remain fit, while recognizing the health benefits of exercise and good nutrition.

According to Denise Sichler, clinical dietitian, RD, LDN, for Cura Hospitality, (the company that manages dining services for Phoebe Berks), residents are all encouraged to participate and to walk as many laps as they can.   To help residents prepare for the walk, Phoebe activities is currently offering classes which provide tips on the right way to walk for fitness, dress and foot attire for walking and the importance of hydration during any exercise routine.  For those residents who require assistance, Phoebe volunteers will help to transport them in wheelchairs so they may celebrate too.

Fresh fruit, including apple and orange slices and homemade granola will be available for residents to snack on during the walk; while the café will offer a healthy menu featuring chicken Caesar wrap, turkey citrus three bean chili with roasted red pepper rice and fresh strawberry and yogurt parfaits topped with granola.

WHEN: Friday, March 27, 2009; 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Phoebe Berks Village an Healthcare Center (Village Green), One Heidelberg Drive, Wernersville, PA 19565
