Phoebe Ministries Residents, Cura Hospitality Chefs Compete in Chef's Challenge

Residents of Phoebe Ministries' senior living communities in Allentown, Richlandtown, Wernersville and Wyncote, Pa., donned their chef coats to compete side-by-side with Cura Hospitality chefs in the community's first "Chef's Challenge" event. Team Flambe edged out Team Spice for the victory.

Team Flambe consisted of: Prince Micah, a Cura cook at Phoebe Allentown Healthcare Center; Anne Anderson, a Cura prep cook at Phoebe Allentown Healthcare Center; Andrew Eggert, executive chef at Phoebe Allentown Healthcare Center; Darius Murden, a Cura sous chef at The Terrace at Phoebe Allentown; Bud Kuhns, 84, The Terrace at Phoebe Allentown resident; Sara Heintzelman, 83, The Terrace at Phoebe Allentown resident; and Leah Everett, 74, a Phoebe Allentown Healthcare Center resident.  

Team Spice consisted of Ed Keglovits, Cura's executive chef at Phoebe Berks in Wernersville; Nate Phillips, production manager at Phoebe Berks; Matt Eppler, a cook at Phoebe Wyncote; Sally Strick, a baker and cook at Phoebe Richland in Richlandtown; Betty Lehr, 84, Phoebe Berks Village resident; Helen Walters, 86, is a Phoebe Richland, Richlandtown resident; and Helen Ortiz, 85, a Phoebe Wyncote resident.

Team Flambe's winning menu included:
Appetizer: Pan seared sea scallops with acorn squash puree
Entree: Oven roasted swai fish with a roasted mushroom acorn squash over cous cous
Dessert: Acorn squash turnover topped with orange and squash puree with candied glazed cranberries on the side.
